Initiatives, measures and practices aimed at building community can be a catalyst for mobilizing parents and caregivers to promote equity and inclusion and prevent bullying. As always, process is no less important than end results. All our choices and omissions (both conscious and unconscious) can send powerful messages to marginalized parents and caregivers about whose experiences are valued and acknowledged. Over time, as we demonstrate our motivation to include and involve diverse parents and caregivers, to identify and integrate their needs and vision, we can build their trust and commitment and help them feel as though they truly belong to the school community.
